Best baseball game I've played to date 2010-07-29 |
| By Matthew Murphy (Eldon, MO) |
I have been playing baseball games since 1998 and MLB 2k10 is my favorite so far. I love the graphics and the gameplay (although stealing bases is difficult). Franchise mode exceeded my expectations; I like the frequent display of situational statistics. My Player mode is also a lot of fun and the first-person fielding is far better than MLB The Show. I've read reviews in which people report game freezes, but I've played two seasons in My Player and about 10 games in Franchise and have had no freezes.
Very satisfied and highly recommended. |
It's a hit! 2010-07-19 |
| By Mkapa (Cleveland, OH) |
With all the DLC's and high quality wifi on gaming systems today, i found it somewhat surprising that they would still be pushing out these games. Why don't they simply update an older game with downloads and sell it for 10 dollars? So being that games are becoming more and more dependent on downloadable content. Their has be something to draw the player in that makes it unique from the previous installments. And we as gamers, expect more then just a shiny new graphics engine. Is a game like MLB2K10 worth spending your hard earn money on when you already have an older MLB game?
The answer is yes! MLB2K10 takes the baseball sim to a whole different level. Sure you have your standard franchise mode, playoffs, home run derby etc. But 2K10 also throws an exciting new Player mode which is like a whole game in itself. A totally revamped pitching control scheme. And a more casual friendly simulation with "hurry up" baseball option
Pitching has the player moving his analog stick in a certain pattern depending on what is dictating on the screen. The direction of the analog stick being similar to the pitch itself. For example a curveball has you spinning the stick in a 360 like motion, while a fastball is more simple. It's frustrating at first, but once you get your timing down, the learning curve isn't that bad. The control scheme makes the experience all of the more enjoyable when you strikeout a batter. Not to mention more challenging then simply pressing a button. At times though, the controls can be stubborn as a simple tug in one direction are a slip of the thumb will cause a pitch to veer off or even a wild pitch. 2K10 has this annoying "pitching analyzer" thing that pops up every now but thankfully you can turn it off on options menu
The new player mode is like a game all in itself. It adds a little bit of an RPG characteristics to the game. In this mode you play as a rookie (you get to choose what position you play as well as your appearance, number, etc) that has been drafting into the MLB. You start off your career in the minors and then with every win, you gain experience and meet certain goals. Meeting certain goals will place you in a major league team faster then normal. You can eventually take your team to the world series. Have your player play in the all-star game or even make it to the hall of fame. This mode allows every player to live out their fantasy of becoming a pro baseball player. This is also cool if you just enjoy playing a particular position. If for example, you just want to hit or just want to pitch. Or it's good if you just want a more casual experience and don't have time for a nine inning baseball game.
2K10 is also will update your game's roster to what its is right now in the MLB. So if say for example a certain player is replaced in real life. The game will automatically update the roster to reflect that change in the game roster. (Or you can choose to use the game's default roster) So you can play the teams as they are now. The commentators will even tell you the current stats as they are right now! You can also play current games from today. If a world series, all star game is taking place right now. 2K10 allows you play it. I haven't played online games yet so Im not sure of that experience.
Music and sound is superb with a nice collection of rock and rap songs. Although 2K sports does recycle some of the previous music from other 2K sports games. Graphics are really good and detailed.
A couple of years ago I swore that I would never play another 2K sports game because of the large amount of bugs in the game. (Eventually I caved in a bought this one). MLB2K7 had a freezing problem that happened so frequent that it was almost unplayable. 2K10 is a improvement over previous installments, yes there are still some bugs. I had the game freeze on me at least 2 times since buying the game a month ago. But it's still very rare to have the game crash. Likewise, rushing through the commentary will sometimes cause the batter to freeze and the only way I could get out of this was by bringing up the substitutes menu.
All and all, a good game. Haven't played "The show" yet so don't know if it's better |
Rather watch a Matthew Perry Movie then play ths game 2010-07-14 |

| This game blows. The controls suck the game sucks and the colors in the game almost made me puke. After playing one game I couldn't handle the controls. What happened to sports games that were actually fun? I found myself foaming at the mouth in a fetal position in the corner of my bed because this game sucked so much. I would much rather staple the money I spent on this game to a homeless guy's forehead. When they designed this game, did they want it to be good? Did they even try? I doubt it because this game blows and I blame all the people who wrote good reviews for this game. All of you owe me money because of you knuckeheads I wasted my money. Thanks morons. |

Finally! 2010-06-16 |

| 2K10 is the first baseball game I've bought since MVP '05 on the PS2 (I don't own a PS3, so the Show is not an option). If you have a 360 and want a baseball game, it's time to jump on board. There are some minor issues here and there, but overall a fun game. Definitely recommended. |
