Customer Reviews
Customer rating is 5 of 5  I love my Iomega iConnect!   2010-07-28
By B. Noles (Perry, UT United States)
I purchased the Iomega iConnect so I could access my exising USB hard drives on my home network. The iConnect was easy and intuitive to set up and has been working great ever since!
Customer rating is 1 of 5  Unit does NOT work. Iomega support not good!   2010-07-16
By G. W. Faulkner (Nevada)
Thought that this device would allow me to share multiple drives over the network. The PC could not see the unit on the network. After long chat session with Iomega and a followup conversation with them, they decided to replace the unit. Got the replacement and it also was bad. Another conversation with Iomega and they felt that the power supply was bad. Will be sending me a new power supply even though I told them that I had another 12VDC supply and it also did not fix the problem. Amazon agreed to take the unit back.

I suggest that if you buy one of these devices and it does not work out of the box, return it to place of purchase, do not waste your time trying to get it going with Iomega support. It appears that they have a quality problem with the units.
Customer rating is 1 of 5  Really a terrible product   2010-07-12
By Sean O'Grady
The first unit that I received didn't work at all. I was able to exchange it under warranty with little problem. That's when the fun started.

I can only concur with the other lousy reviews of this product. The idea behind this product is great. If it only delivered on ANY of its promises, I think I may have been able to live with it. As it is, it does nothing well.

I have a small home network with 5 computers (XP, Vista and Windows 7). With several old USB hard drives laying around the house, this would have been the perfect product to allow the whole family to regularly back up our important files. I never even bothered trying to get it to talk to my WiFi printer.

Almost worse than simply not working was the fact that it seemed to sort of work, some of the time. I'd see a mapped drive, but my wife wouldn't, or vice-versa. Even when it did seem to be "working", the speed was absolutely dreadful. I once let it run for three days trying to copy 70GB worth of material to a connected drive. It seemed to hang up on larger files and simply give up.

I spent many hours online or on the phone with Iomega tech support trying different configurations and settings. If nothing else, I've learned to save all of the packaging so that I can return useless junk like this.

If anyone knows of a similar product that actually works, please let me know.
Customer rating is 4 of 5  Ok but a little slow   2010-06-30
By Richard Carroll (South of somewhere.)
I added this unit to make use of some extra external drives as NAS and it works pretty good. I planned to use it to sync music files between my media server and the externals to maintain a backup but the transfer rate is so slow that it's never once fully completed the sync. So I just manually complete the operation on new music.

Pros -

Easy to use software
Easy to connect - just plug your USB2 eternal in to it, power the drive up and it appears.
Lots of extra capacity

Cons -

All that extra capacity takes a couple minutes to index when you open a drive sometimes.
Drops off the net once and a while.
File transfer rate is kinda slow.

Summary - If your going to buy this and a usb2 external to connect to your net work - SAVE YOUR MONEY - buy a dedicated NAS instead, there a plenty of quality inexpensive refurbs out there. If you already have a couple spare usb2 externals it will give you a way to make use of them. This is a good quality NAS for a reasonable price - Iomega Home Media 1 TB Network Attached Storage 34337
Customer rating is 1 of 5  "Time Machine Support", I think NOT!!!!   2010-06-27
By Mayo
iOmega claims "Time Machine Support" for MAC OSX; however do they even understand MAC's? Unit will not read an external HD formatted as "MAC Extended OS (Case Sensitive, Journalized)" which is how my external 500 Gb WD My Book was formatted when I purchased it two years ago to just pull into my MacBook once a week. I purchased a 1TB WD My Books to move my Time Machine Back-ups to as there is no way to change the partition on my old drive; however even though the iConnect now reads the external drive as "MAC Extended OS ( Journalized)" iConnect 3rd level support told me they only support FAT32 for "Time Machine". Give me a break, FAT32 might be compatible with MAC OSX; however, if you're a MAC owner you'll understand that this is just not what you want.

By the way; I needed to temporarily "shelve" my old 500Gb drive as I couldn't copy the 2 years worth of "Time Machine" backups due to them being "Case Sensitive"; however when I couldn't get a fresh "Time Machine" to work wirelessly with iConnect I decided to return it and continue to use the shelved 500Gb drive that has been working flawlessly for two years. The only issue I have is remembering to plug it in once a week which is why I wanted this thing anyway. I might try Apple's Time Capsule even though it's a bit more money and the owner comments aren't the best; however at least Apple understands drives formatted as "MAC Extended OS (Case Sensitive, Journalized)". Maybe I can use the new 1TB WD My Book as a Backup for Time Capsule.
